The 78th Regiment, Ohio Infantry mustered in October, 1861, to January, 1862 at Zanesville, Ohio. They were mustered out July 11, 1865 at Louisville, Kentucky. [1]
Companies in this Regiment with the Counties of Origin[edit | edit source]
Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.

Company A - Many men from Guernsey & Muskingum Counties.
Company B - Many men from Muskingum County.
Company C - Many men from Zanesville, Muskingum County & Guernsey County.
Company D - Many men from Morgan & Muskingum Counties.
Company E - Many men from Morgan County.
Company F - Many men from Guernsey & Muskingum Counties.
Company G - Many men from Muskingum & Noble Counties.
