Companies in this Regiment with the Counties of Origin[edit | edit source]
Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.
The 36th Regiment was recruited from several counties in southeastern Ohio,
Company A - Many men from Lowell, Washington County.
Company B - Many men from Athens County and Gallia County.
Company C - Many men from Athens County.
Company D - Many men from Jackson County.
Company E - Many men from Monroe County.
Company F - Many men from Washington County.
Company G - Also known as "Salem Light Guard". Many men from Washington County and Columbiana County.
Company H - Many men from Meigs County.
Company I - Many men from Montgomery County.
Company K - Many men from Jackson County.
