Brief History[edit | edit source]
The 1st Regiment, Missouri Engineers Union Missouri was organized February 17, 1864, by consolidation of Bissell's Engineer Regiment of the West and 25th Regiment Missouri Infantry. It was attached to Defences of Nashville and Northwestern Railroad, Department of the Cumberland, to August, 1864. Engineers Sherman's Army to July, 1865.[1]
Companies in this Regiment with the Counties of Origin[edit | edit source]
Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.
