The 3rd Independent Company, Ohio Cavalry mustered in July 4, 1861 at Cinncinati, Ohio. They mustered out May 22, 1865. [1]
The Third Independent Company of Cavalry served the first three months of the war in West Virginia, familiarly known as "Pfau's Company of Horse," for their captain, Philip Pfau. The members re-enlisted in other organizations.[2]
Companies in this Regiment with the Counties of Origin[edit | edit source]
Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.
