Historical Background[edit | edit source]
The French attempted 19 census of the area between 1830-1962, however these censuses provide more information for the Europeans living in Algeria than the native population. The last census while Algeria was under French rule was in 1960.
There were other censuses created in 1966, 1977, 1987, 1998, and 2020.
