 The Gregorian calendar is the accepted international standard calendar, and is used in almost every country for civil and administrative purposes. It is a solar calendar, meaning that it is based on the Earth's revolution around the Sun. The Gregorian calendar is constantly being updated. The International Earth Rotation and Reference Systems Service (IERS) is responsible for making sure that the calendar stays in sync with the Earth's rotation.
