Layton Utah FamilySearch Center Classes


Classes

The Layton FamilySearch Center offers many basic and advanced classes to help you with your family history work. No reservations are required to attend any of our classes. You can view the schedule of classes - by date or by class title - at the links below. You can also scroll down to the class categories to see more information about each of the classes. We also have the options for you to access the BYU Family History Virtual Classes and Webinars library or to reserve one of our classrooms for your group with your own instructor.

Webinars

  • The BYU Library hosts family history webinars by experts on a variety of topics including research, resources, tools, and methods. Instructional Videos

  • In addition to webinars, the BYU Family History Library provides many family history instructional videos. These pre-recorded videos give you another way to learn more about family history in a convenient and up-to-date format. You can view these on our Instructional Videos page.

Groups: Classroom Reservation

Reserve a Classroom (provide your own teacher)

  • Reserve one of our classrooms for your church, family or other group (provide your own instructor).
  • Each member of your group will have their own computer, and the classroom includes an instructor computer with overhead projection.
  • If needed, one of our missionaries will help get you started with the equipment.
  • This is a great opportunity for you to provide the instruction of your choice to your group using the Center's state-of-the art equipment.
  • Classrooms are available Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday at 7pm, Saturday at 9am and 11am, and Sunday at 2pm and 4pm.

Advanced Indexing & Reviewer Training

This class will help those who have some experience In Web Indexing with tips and tricks that will enhance your indexing experience. These hints will help you be more efficient and accurate. You will learn how to reorder fields, use different data entry forms, copy duplicate information from one entry into the next and learn how to share your batch when you need help and open a shared batch to help others. The class will include information for those who are or wish to become an Index Reviewer. This class will also be helpful for the Ward or Stake temple and family history consultant.
