- Visits are strictly by appointment only. The archival holdings consist chiefly of the Council Minutes, and related records, of the 4 Townships that were amalgamated to form Dún Laoghaire Corporation – Blackrock, Dalkey, Killiney and Kingstown/Dún Laoghaire. They are chiefly bound volumes with handwritten entries. The section is also responsible for documents relating to Marlay Park, Cabinteely House and Fernhill, and the former Dún Laoghaire Harbour Company. Only catalogued material is publicly accessible.

- In order to serve users who wish to study the development of South Dublin County and its rich history and heritage, the main Local Studies Collection is held at the County Library, Tallaght. The collection includes over 10,000 books, periodicals, audio-visual material, photographs, prints and maps relating to the history and social, demographic and economic development of South Dublin County.
