2nd Infantry Regiment completed its organization at Corinth, Mississippi, in April, 1861, with men from Tishomingo, Tippah, Itawamba, and Pontotoc counties. Ordered to Harper's Ferry, Virginia, it was there mustered into Confederate service. During the war it was assigned to General Whiting's, Law's, and J.R. Davis' Brigade, Army of Northern Virginia. Only 1 officer and 19 men surrendered. The field officers were Colonels William C. Falkner and John M. Stone; Lieutenant Colonels John A. Blair, Bartley B. Boone, and D.W. Humphreys; and Major John H. Buchanan.
