Research use: Census records list the names of each member of a family and show ages and other valuable information for linking families.
Record type: Enumeration of population.
Time period:
- 1766: A census of the former Duchy of Luxembourg was taken. The original is located in Brussels, Belgium. A microfilm copy is available onsite at the FamilySearch Library; see the Catalog entry
- 1806: Census of French department of Les Forêts; some parishes are missing; partial coverage
- 1821: Rumored census but unconfirmed by the state archives
- 1843: Censuses of the modern Grand Duchy of Luxembourg date from 1843 to the present
- 1860-1870: During this time period most town Census records started creating indexes
- 1900: Last census digitally available (FamilySearch)
- 1922: Latest full census publicly available (National Archives of Luxembourg)
- 1935: Latest partial census publicly available (National Archives of Luxembourg)
Contents: Names of heads of families and their children. Later censuses give ages or birth dates, places of residence, civil status, occupation, etc.
