Brief History[edit | edit source]
The 101st Regiment was organized at Monroeville, Ohio, August 30, 1862. At the end of the war, it moved to Nashville, Tennessee and had duty there till June. The Regiment mustered out June 12, 1865[1].
For more information on the history of this unit, see:
- The Civil War Archive section, 101st Regiment Infantry, (accessed 5 September 2012).
- Larry Stevens' Ohio in the Civil War, 101st Ohio Infantry
Companies in this Regiment with the Counties of Origin[edit | edit source]
Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.
Company A - Many men from Huron County[2] Erie County[3]
Company B - Many men from Huron and Erie County[4]
Company C - many men from Crawford County[5]
Company D - Many men from Huron County[2] Erie County[6]
Company E - Many men from Crawford County[7]
Company F - Many men from Wyandot County [8] See early roster and later roster.
Company G - Many men from Huron and Erie Counties[9]
Company H - Men from Seneca County[10]
The Civil War Soldiers and Sailors database lists 1,675 men on its roster for this unit. Roster.
