United States Rhode Island Biography

The Family History Library collects biographical sources and important genealogical collections that contain biographical material. The Rhode Island Historical Society has the largest collection of biographical material for the state. Several collections are described in Rhode Island Genealogy.

A useful index is J. Carlyle Parker, Rhode Island Biographical and Genealogical Sketch Index. (Turlock, California: Marietta Pub. Co., 1991; FHL Collection book 974.5 D32p.

An excellent published source of biographies is Representative Men and Old Families of Rhode Island: Genealogical and Historical Sketches of Prominent and Representative Citizens of Many of the Old Families, Three Volumes. (Chicago, Illinois: J. H. Beers & Co., 1908; FHL Collection book 974.5 D3r; films 982090-91 item 2.
