| The 4th Regiment, Kentucky Cavalry organized at Louisville, Kentucky, December 24, 1861 under Colonel Jesse Bayles. The 4th was among the first to veteranize, by re-enlisting for 3 years. They were engaged in over fifty battles. In one battle 97 men were killed, and prisoners of war were taken.
