:The institutional life of the Ancash Regional Archive dates from 1988 (OEI). To get the file installed several unsuccessful attempts were made. The first dates from 1980, where the Ancash branch of the then National Institute of Culture intervenes, occasion in which the identification of notarial files is carried out. The second is led by the Universidad Nacional Santiago Antunez de Mayolo (Census-Guide). It will be the coordinations begun in 1987 that will allow the foundation of the then Ancash Departmental Archive, efforts involving both the provincial mayor of Huaraz, José Sotelo Ibaceta, and the director of the General Archive of the Nation, César Gutiérrez Muñoz.
