The Kentucky Genealogical Society was formed in 1973 by a genealogical class who wanted to ensure communication and research of Kentucky families. They are an all volunteer organization who offer educational events and Kentucky focused research assistance. Additionally, they offer a digitization grant program to promote the preservation of Kentucky records that have genealogical value.
The group often jokes about how they have all caught a bug - the ''genealogical bug''. New members with the same bug are welcomed to join.
They also publish items of genealogical interest, including the quarterly periodical Bluegrass Roots, mentioned in the "[[Kentucky Periodicals|Periodicals]]" section.
