This article describes the services and resources available at a FamilySearch Center, a branch facility of the FamilySearch Library. |
Access to handouts, class notes and other information for the Vista Family History Center can be found on our web page.
We serve the Family History needs of all who visit. The center is served by North County Transit District bus route 318. Access off of Oak St through parking area.
Masks and social distancing are encouraged.

The center is accessed from the parking lot at the South-East corner. DO NOT use building front doors as no one will know you are there.
The parking lot entrance is off Oak St. across from the Foothill Oak Elementary School.

I've used Google Sheets to track and organize thousands of ancestors and their descendants for DNA and other research. I use Google Maps to locate my ancestors' homes and validate location research. I use Google Translate to understand non-English source records. I use Gmail to organize genealogy collaboration. This class will take you through a tour of all of these various tools and after attending you'll have a better understanding of how they work together to help you find your ancestors.
This month's class will be taught remotely. Learn how to use a variety of tools along with web searches to research your family tree, find your ancestors and stay organized. I'll be covering lots of things including Google Drive, Google Sheets, Google Maps, Google Translate and Google Books. I'll talk about each of these tools and explain how to use them.August 26, 2021 Become A - Family Tree Forest Ranger This is an Entry – Emerging level class. Discussion will consider: note(s), source(s)/citation(s). Also, making a plan to locate and use the records needed to expand your family information. To do this we must touch on the FamilySearch wiki and other means of increasing our own ability as Family Historians.

Databases and Software[edit | edit source]
FHC Portal: This center has access to the Family History Center Portal page which gives free access in the center to premium family history software and websites that generally charge for subscriptions.
Hardware and Equipment[edit | edit source]
The Vista FHC is equipped with number of internet linked computers, and a flatbed scanner for documents and photos.
Resources in the Local Area[edit | edit source]
The Carlsbad "Cole Library" with the North County Genealogical Society is another useful resource in this area.
