The Little Wood River Valley is where Carey is located. The first postmaster was named James Carey in 1885 the post office was named Carey. Some say that the town was named after Thomas Carey Stanford, younger brother of Cyrus Joseph Stanford (who was the leader of those colonists). The Great Depression was very hard on the town was it never recovered from. The total population of Carey Precinct was 767 in 1930 | |||
