FamilySearch This article describes the services and resources available at a FamilySearch Center, a branch facility of the FamilySearch Library.


The Mount Vernon Virginia Family Center is located in the Franconia area of Alexandria, Virginia and in the Mount Vernon Virginia Stake Center. We are available to help you get started with family history research and can help you view various films and fiche available through the FamilySearch Catalog

  • We are opening our doors again! However we will have more limited hours and may be adjusting our hours according to our volunteers' availability and in response to needs and changes in the environment. Please visit this page often for updates and confirm the hours on the calendar above prior to traveling to the Family History Center.
  • Sundays 3-5 pm
  • Thursdays 7-9 pm
  • Saturdays 10am-12pm

In accordance with CDC guidance, wearing a mask is requested by those not fully vaccinated. If you are not comfortable coming into the Family history center and need virtual assistance, please email the address listed above.

Our Family History center provides access to relevant technology, premium subscription services, and digital records, including restricted content not available at home.

Databases and Software[edit | edit source]

The Family History Center Portal Service is currently unavailable for needed maintenance and upgrades (2 June 2021). It is anticipated this will take up to 90 days to complete. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience and understanding.
  • FHC Portal This center has access to the Family History Center Portal page which gives free access in the center to premium family history software and websites that generally charge for subscriptions. This includes Ancestry.com, FindMyPast, MyHeritage, Fold3, 19th Century British Library Newspaper Digital Archive, Alexander Street Press (Civil War databases), Proquest Obituaries, Kinpoint Premium, and Puzzilla.org.

  • The center has several microfilm readers, one of which is connected to a computer that will allow you to scan the records and save them to a flash drive. There are six computers with internet access that you can use to do research.
