Historical Background[edit | edit source]
The area of what is now Bonaire was under Dutch control 1815-1936. From 1936-1948, it was part of the Territory of Curaçao, also Dutch. It was known as Netherlands Antilles, Bonaire, 1948-2010. Records may be in Dutch, Spanish, or English but mostly Dutch. It is also considered part of the Caribbean Netherlands.
