The authorities in charge of registering births, marriages and deaths are:

  • Mayors of the communes
  • Sub-prefects
  • Administrators/mayors of arrondissements and urban communities

Marriage Certificate[edit | edit source]

  • Name of each spouse
  • Occupation of each spouse
  • Date and place of birth of each spouse
  • Residence of each spouse
  • For minors, consent or authorization must be given
  • Option of "monogamy or polygamy eventually subscribed by the spouses"
  • "Payment or not of a dowry under conditions of marriage"
  • Whether either spouse was divorced
