Historical Background[edit | edit source]
The Bruneian Empire probably had control over most of the island of Borneo, including the area of Brunei. In 1888, Brunei became a British protectorate. On 1 January 1984, Brunei gained its independence from the United Kingdom.[1]
Coverage and Compliance[edit | edit source]
Birth and death records started in 1926 for British subjects and from 1948 for others.[2]
"The legal minimum age of marriage for both boys and girls is 14 years with parental and participant consent, unless otherwise stipulated by religion or custom under the law."[3]
