Discovery Experiences[edit | edit source]

Use the large interactive display screens to discover more about yourself as you visualize your family tree in unique ways.

  • ALL ABOUT ME - What's so special about my birth year? Discover what was happening in the world the day you were born.
  • WHERE I COME FROM - How in the world did I get here? View the geographical origins of your ancestors.
  • PICTURE MY STORY - How would I look in my ancestor's clothing? Superimpose a picture of you onto the cultural clothes of your ancestors.
  • RECORD MY STORY - What are my favorite memories? Capture your memories in this state-of-the-art story studio. Group and individual booths are available.
  • MY FAMOUS RELATIVES - Learn of the famous people you are related to. See if you are related to other Discovery Center visitors.

Discovery Center Group Reservations[edit | edit source]


  • We will help you get started on FamilySearch.org
  • Finding Ancestor Names to Take to the Temple--Learn techniques for finding ancestors who need temple ordinances.
  • Indexing--Learn how to do web based indexing
  • Add Memories--pictures, stories, documents and audio files. Learn how to download the Memory App to your smart phone.
  • Research--Learn how to search for documents and attach them as sources using FamilySearch Research

Dozens of state-of-the-art computers are available.

Many premium genealogical and historical websites are available.

* Please let us know when you schedule if you have your own instructor or need one.
  • We have two classrooms available for you to book, one room with 24 computers and one with 36.
  • If you have more than 36 people in your class, please schedule the second classroom.

Photo Scanning Equipment
The Center has the following equipment available to you:

  • Remember to bring you own USB drive/Thumb drive and DVD's if using VHS to DVD recorder.
    • Flatbed Scanner. (Flatbed scanner is scheduled with the PS80.) Excellent for books, documents, certificates, and items with thick bindings. Individually scans multiple pictures from a single page.
    • Batch Picture Scanner. Uses a feed tray which allows items to be scanned much faster than on the flatbed.
    • Slide Scan. Automatically scans 35mm slides from a standard slide carousel.
    • Lexmark Color Copier/Printer/Scanner. Converts multiple page documents into a single pdf file. This is ideal for preserving and sharing typewritten family histories.
    • VHS or DVD to MP4 recorder. Converts VHS to DVD or MP4. Make sure to bring plenty of DVD's For every two hours of recording you will need a DVD.
    • Bring a thumb drive to put your MP4's on.
  • If you are 15 minutes or more late for your appointment your time can be given to someone else.


  • Patron Family History Classes

    5 generations-A Basic Approach to your Family Tree
    • This will be a one hour class, starting:
    • 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. October 8th
    • 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. October 10th

    If you can please bring colored pencils and a pedigree chart for both your parents.

    Writing Your Family History Taught by Joanne Hansen

    • This will be a one hour class every Wednesday, starting:
    • 11:00 a.m. October 9th

    If you already have a FamilySearch account, be sure to bring your account username and password when you visit the Center.
    If you do not have an account, set one up before coming by following the instructions on the link below.
    You do not need to pre-register for these classes.

    <FONT size=Children's Area "4"> This center provides a comfortable work environment for parents.

    • There is a play area for small children near computer work stations where parents can work on their family history without leaving their children unattended.


    Children's Group Activity

    * Ages 8-10 and maximum of 15 visitors per group.
    • This activity is free.
    • The class will introduce the children to family history, help them begin to complete their own history.
    • My Family Booklet (provided to each child) to learn about the importance of preserving memories.
    • They will record a memory in our recording room which can be shared through email with each child.
    • The class will last approximately 1 hour.
    • Requirements: We ask that there be one adult for every 3 children and that the adults stay with the group the entire time.
