1540: First contact made by Fancisco Vazquez Coronado

1786: Presidio Ration Program of the Spanish gave food and alcohol to all Apache

1848: Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, land is ceded to the United States

1863: Forced relocation to Fort Sunmer

1864: Navajo enemies of the Apache were moved into Fort Sumner

1864: Arizona Territorial Legislature; encouraged the killing of Apache people

1873: Mescalero reservation established

Reservations[edit | edit source]

This tribe is primarily associated with the Mescalero Reservation in New Mexico.

The majority of records of individuals were those created by the agencies. Some records may be available to tribal members through the tribal headquarters.They were (and are) the local office of the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and were charged with maintaining records of the activities of those under their responsibility.
