Malawi was formerly the Nyasaland Protectorate (until 1907 it was British Central Africa). Malawi was formerly the Nyasaland Protectorate (until 1907 it was British Central Africa). Nyasaland became a self-governing country in 1963, and in 1964 an independent member of the Commonwealth under the name of Malawi.[1]
