Current Projects page Restructure Country Pages

Purpose

Take the current content on all country pages in the wiki and synthesize the information to conform to the new upgraded version of country pages. No content will be lost.

Instructions

Create Sandbox page

1. Sign up for a country on the task list and use the link on the task list to go to the country page.

2. Once on the country page, edit the page and go to wiki text.

3. Copy all the content on the country page. Either highlight the information with your mouse or you can put your cursor into the edit box and do ctrl and the letter

a. It will highlight all of the content. Then copy the text.

4. Go back to the tab with the task list and click on the sandbox page listed beside the country name. It will open a new page for you to edit.

5. Go to wikitext and paste the content in the sandbox page.

6. Save the page

Add headings

1. Edit the page again and go to wikitext.

2. Copy the following wiki text

3. Go back to the sandbox page for the country and go to the bottom of the text.

4. Paste the wikitext and save the page.

Restructure the new sandbox page

1. Review the page. You are now going to put information under the headings you just added to the page. This will ensure we have the needed information on the page when we restructure the pages after the upgrade. This will also help us find places to put the information currently on the page that will no longer be on the country page.

2. Use the following notes to help you move the information on the sandbox page:

a.Breadcrumb Trail

i. The country should only be on the page. Do not list Europe or any other continent

b. SEO paragraph

i. Move the SEO paragraph under this heading

c. Sidebar

i. Move the code for the sidebar under this heading

d. Images

i. Move any images under this heading

e. Online Records Button

i. Move the blue button under this heading

f. Jurisdictions list (usually bullet list)

i. Put the bullet lists of all of the jurisdictions under this heading

g. Country clickable Map

i. If there is a clickable map of the country, place it here

h. Getting Started (any research strategy pages)

i. If there are any links to any kind of strategy pages including beginning research under the beginner’s corner, Record Selection tables, or the How to blue box, put it here (you can put the whole box under this heading)

j. Research tools

i. These links can include gazetteers for country, word lists, language writing aids

k. Other information

i. Everything else goes under this heading

l. Categories

i. Put the categories at the bottom of the page
