Brief History[edit | edit source]
The 6th Regiment, Ohio Cavalry mustered in October 7, 1861 at Warren, Ohio. They were mustered out August 7, 1865 at Sub-District of the Appomattox, Department of Virginia. [1]
For more information on the history of this unit, see:
- Larry Stevens' Ohio in the Civil War, 6th Ohio Cavalry

Companies in this Regiment with the Counties of Origin[edit | edit source]
Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.
The Civil War Soldiers and Sailors database lists 2864 men on its roster for this unit. Roster.
Company A -
Company B -
Company C - Many men from Geauga County, Columbiana County[2] and Lake County[3]
Company D - Many men from Trumbull County and Mahoning County[4]
Company E -
Company F -
Company G - Many men from Trumbull County and Mahoning County[4]
Company H -
Company I - Many men from Trumbull County and Mahoning County[4]
Company K - Many men from Trumbull County and Mahoning County[4]
Company M - many men from Columbiana County[2]
A county listing from Steve Ward's Buckeyes All, Part I Revised, is given on Larry Stevens' Ohio in the Civil War web page, 6th Ohio Cavalry.
