Major Kansas courts that kept records of genealogical value were established as follows:
- District courts have districtwide jurisdiction over civil and criminal cases, including divorces. The 105 Kansas counties are divided into 31 districts as laid out in Wikipedia.
- County courts have countywide jurisdiction over some criminal cases, including traffic violations, and minor civil cases.
- Magistrate and city courts have citywide jurisdiction over minor criminal matters and traffic matters in some cities.
- Supreme court serves as the statewide appellate court.
The Family History Library has copies of Kansas many probate and district court records and some from the civil courts. To see the records that are available, seach the Family History Library Catalog under:
