Beginning Research in Louisiana This class will highlight Louisiana family history through its diverse history, peoples and cultures. Historical context will be given beginning with the colonial period. An overview of many record sources available, including civil, church, land and military will be covered. Also a preliminary look at the some sources specific to African American and Native American family history will be shared. Time will be allowed for questions.Must preregister! Beginning Research in Germany : Crossing the PondFocusing on the great wave of German immigration from 1840 to 1900, this class will outline the numerous resources available that can help you narrow the search for your ancestors' place of origin. We'll also touch on the special challenges posed by the spelling of German surnames and place names and by the movable feast of German geography in the 19th century. Oakland California Family History Center The Oakland (California) Regional Family History Center is one of the largest and most accessible centers for genealogical research in California, with over 9,000 volumes of books, periodicals, family histories, city and county histories, city directories, plus over 37,000 reels of microfilm and 9,000 microfiche containing millions of local vital records and historical census data from all over the world.
