The organization of Brown's Horse Artillery started on 23rd September 1862 at Lexington,&nbsp;Kentucky, but was interrupted when the town was evacuated.&nbsp; "With condemned horses, patched-up stage-harness, and barely men enough to drive the guns, a battery-wagon and caisson were brought through safely to Knoxville, Tenn.
