Brief History[edit | edit source]

43rd Regiment, North Carolina Infantry was assembled at Camp Mangum, near Raleigh, North Carolina, in March, 1862. It surrendered on April 9, 1865, with 9 officers and 164 men.[1]

Companies in this Regiment with the Counties of Origin[edit | edit source]

Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.

Company A - "The Duplin Rifles" - many men from Duplin County

Company B - "Union Farmers" - many men from  Mecklenburg County

Company C - many men from Wilson County

Company D - many men from Halifax County

Company E - "Edgecombe Boys" - many men from Edgecombe County

Company F - many men from Halifax County

Company G - "Warren Defenders" - many men from Warren County

Company H - "Fisher Light Infantry" - many men from Anson County

Company I - "Anson Regulators" - many men from Anson County

Company K - "Anson Independent" - meny men from Anson County[2]

The above information about the companies comes from SKETCH OF THE FORTY-THIRD REGIMENT NORTH CAROLINA TROOPS, PREPARED IN 1895 BY OFFICERS AND MEN WHO WERE PARTICIPANTS IN ITS MOVEMENTS

Information about the companies and their rosters are in Manarin and Jordan, North Carolina Troops 1861-1865 A Roster.[3]
