Latvia is a country in Europe bordered by Estonia, Lithuania, Russia, and Belarus. It was formerly ruled by Russia and the Soviet Union. The official language is Latvian.[1] Latvia was incorporated into the Soviet Union and remained a Soviet republic for forty-five years. It declared independence and received international recognition in August-September 1991.
