Brief History[edit | edit source]
The 49th Regiment, Missouri Infantry (Union) was organized at Warrenton, Mexico, Macon and St. Louis, Mo., August 31, 1864, to February 5, 1865. They were attached to District of North Missouri, Dept. of Missouri, to February, 1865. 2nd Brigade, 3rd Division, 16th Army Corps (New), Military District of West Mississippi, to August, 1865. Dept. of Alabama to December, 1865. [1]
Companies in this Regiment with the Counties of Origin[edit | edit source]
Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.
