Brief History[edit | edit source]
The 4th Regiment, Wisconsin Cavalry, was organized at Racine, Wisconsin and it was mustered in July 1861.It was mustered out at Brownsville May 28, 1866. It then moved to Madison, Wisconsin, June 3-18, and was discharged June 19, 1866. [1]
Companies in this Regiment with the Counties of Origin[edit | edit source]
Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.
