Historical Background[edit | edit source]
Mayotte is the French Department of Mayotte (Département de Mayotte).[1] France first gained possession of Mayotte in 1841.[2] Slaves were brought to Mayotte before the French came. Soon after the French gained control, slavery was outlawed. [1]
