Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.

Brief History[edit | edit source]

This Unit was organized at Lafayette, Indiana. Moved to Indianapolis, Indiana. It took part in the Capture of Macon April 20 and the Pursuit of Jeff Davis May 6-10. Then they moved to Nashville, Tennessee, May 23-June 15 and mustered out June 26, 1865.[1]

For more information on the history of this unit, see:

Companies in this Regiment with the Counties of Origin[edit | edit source]

Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived, though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. If you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.

  • 72nd Regiment Indiana Infantry Rosters at Ranger95.
