WikiProject:Adding New Collection Links

Instructions

Part 1 - Analyze the Collection Link

1. Locate a collection to add on the New Collections Spreadsheet: All - Formatted List tab.

2. Add your name to column B to sign up for that new collection.

3. Click on the link for the new collection found in Column F.

4. Review the description of the collection to see where the information was obtained from.

a. If the information states that is from FamilySearch, skip to Part 3.

Examples of Wording:
Original data: Austria, Births and Baptisms, 1651-1940. Salt Lake City, Utah: FamilySearch, 2013.

b. If the name and dates of the collection, match FamilySearch or another website, skip to Part 3.

c. If there is no indication that this is the same databases from FamilySearch, go to Part 2.

Part 2 - Creating the Collection Link

1. Open up a Sandbox page where you can create the new link.

2. Create the new link by using the following wikitext code listed below:

Part 3 - Creating an Also As

1. This is used when a collection is found on more than on website.

Here is an example of completed collection link with, Also as: added:

*'''1651-1940''': {{RecordSearch|1520584|Austria Births and Baptisms}} at FamilySearch; index only; ''Also at [http://search.ancestry.com/search/db.aspx?dbid=9779 Ancestry]'' ($), ''[http://www.myheritage.com/research/collection-30089/austria-births-baptisms-1651-1940?s=218489221 MyHeritage]'' ($)

2. Use the following to create the Also at portion of the collection link.

Example of wikitext

''Also at: [URL WEBSITENAME] ($)''

3. The phrase, index & images can be added if it is different from the original website. For instance, if FamilySearch has an index and images but Ancestry only has the index, you would do the following:

Part 4 - Placing the Link on Wiki Pages

1. The collection needs to be analyzed before determining where it should go. Use the guidelines here to help you determine where it should go:

This website requires a paid subscription for full access. Some subscription websites are available for free at your local FamilySearch Center or Affiliate Library.

To access available information, first log into FamilySearch.
