Brief History[edit | edit source]

The 5th Regiment, Minnesota Infantry was organized at Fort Snelling, Minnesota on March 15 to April 30, 1862.  It mustered out on September 6, 1865 after a duty at Montgomery, Selma and Demopolis, Alabama.

For more information on this regiment see the following:

  • Wikipedia article on the 5th Minnesota Volunteer Infantry Regiment.

Companies in this Regiment with the Counties of Origin[edit | edit source]

Men often enlisted in  a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded.  However if you are unsure which company your ancestor  was in, try the company recruited in his county first.
