:The Afro-Brazilian Museum of the Federal University of Bahia is one of the few in the country to deal exclusively with African cultures and its presence in the Brazilian culture formation. Through important material elements that represent these cultures, the museum presents contents that facilitate the understanding of the historical, artistic and ethnographic aspects that identify the African societies and allow a reflection on the importance of this matrix for the development of Brazilian society.

:The Museu da Misericordia tells the story of the history of medicine in Brazil and is set within a grand 17th-century building formerly functioning as the very first hospital in the whole of Brazil. Guided tours are available and allow visitors to see relevant artefacts and period furnishings from the past four centuries, although it should be noted that these tours are only available in Portuguese. Attached to the Museu da Misericordia is the beautiful Igreja da Misericordia church, which certainly warrants exploration and comes with some historic colourful glazed tiles, known as 'azulejos'.

:The MAE / UFBA safeguards archaeological and ethnographic collections representative of the pre-colonial and colonial periods and contemporary Brazilian indigenous peoples.
