Originally called "New Town", it later was shortened to Newton. It was established in 1869 when the residents of [[Clarkston, Utah|Clarkston]], Cache, Utah decided to move to a new town. Newton is situated west of [[Logan, Utah|Logan]], [[Cache County, Utah Genealogy|Cache]], Utah and has a total area of 0.8 square miles.
