==Spanish Colony and Province (1778-1968)== | |||
In 1778 the Treaty of El Pardo was signed between the Portuguese and Spaniards. The island of Bioko, adjoining islets, and commercial rights were given to Spain. From 1778-1810, affairs of the territory of Equatorial Guinea were conducted by the viceroyalty of Rio de la Plata in Buenos Aires. From 1926-1959, Equatoria Guniea was known as the colony of Spanish Guinea, and in 1959 became a province.
