Established in 1850, The Society of California Pioneers is a not-for-profit museum, library, and cultural organization dedicated to advancing the knowledge and appreciation of early California history. They have over 10,000 books, manuscripts, maps, journals, newspapers, and autobiographical materials related to the early history of California. Research visits are free, but only by prior appointment. Call the number below to schedule.
Pioneer Hall – the Society's public museum – also requires a prior appointment.
Founding members of the Society were asked in 1900 to write autobiographies and include information about their journey westward. Those Autobiographies And Reminiscences Of Early Pioneers: 1900-1904 are available online at http://www.californiapioneers.org/library/reminiscences/.
