England Church Records: Difference between revisions

This table includes Anglican church records that are online at the following major genealogy sites: FamilySearch, Ancestry ($), FindMyPast ($) and The Genealogist ($), and FreeReg.org.uk, and Family History Societies, etc. Other important websites, such as county Online Parish Clerk [11 counties only], and other websites and offline resources have specialized coverage for certain regions. For these, visit the Church Records page for that county here in the FamilySearch Wiki. Also note that images on FamilySearch may require use of a computer at a Family History Center or Affliate Library. Extracted IGI church records are now searchable on FamilySearch. However, there is not 100% coverage. Sometimes not all three of baptisms, marriages and burials are included. Burials, which were not much indexed previously by familySearch.org, are now being indexed extensively.

Many years ago FamilySearch took a sample of Church records and included them in the International Genealogical Index(IGI). Please note that much of the extracted IGI data is also now incorporated into the current FamilySearch search engine England databases. When you conduct a search in that search engine, you are also searching the extracted portion of the old IGI datafile. The IGI does not contain images, and has only a very small fraction of the records. The IGI is best used as a starting point before obtaining images for confirmation and further information.
