Brief History[edit | edit source]

The 44th Consolidated Regiment, Tennessee Infantry was organized at Camp Trousdale, Tennessee, in December, 1861. It ended the war at Appomattox. [1]

Companies in this Regiment with the Counties of Origin[edit | edit source]

Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.

The 44th Regiment, Tennessee Infantry consolidated with the 55th Regiment, Tennessee Infantry (McKoin's) April, 1862.

The Civil War Soldiers and Sailors database lists 2,175 men on its roster for this unit. Roster.
