The 45th Regiment Kentucky Mounted Infantry Volunteer Mounted Infantry was at first designed as a battalion for local service on the Virginia front by Major Lewis M. Clark. They participated in the battle of Cynthiann, June 12th 1864, in which Morgan's force was finally destroyed.
