=== Church Court Records ===
Research use:  Provides proof that certain persons are living in a certain parish; used for pedigree linkage and to cover a time period in which parish register coverage is poor.  Very good for giving origins of people.  Act books would serve as indexes to material not microfilmed.
Record type:  Record of the general business of the church courts.  These courts deal with the following:  presentments, naming individuals who committed offenses such as adultery, fornication, swearing, failure to attend church, heresy, drunkenness and those refusing to have their children christened.
Time period:  1500 to 1860s.
Contents:  Act Books:  Day by day actions of the court serves as an index to other records.  Ecclesiastical Cause papers:  Examination of those giving testimony for the court.  Gives names, ages, birthplaces, and other residences, and length of time in the community plus information on problem in question.
Location:  National Library of Wales.
Population coverage:  Pre-1775, about 30% of adult population.
Reliability:  Very good because they are a court record.<ref name="profile">The Family History Department of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, “Family History Record Profile: Wales,” Word document, private files of the FamilySearch Content Strategy Team, 1989-1997.</ref>
