Missionary Training Support Missionary Mentoring

Mentoring Goals[edit | edit source]

The FanilySearch Wiki Support Team to assist the new missionaries in their training is assigning each a mentor. The object of this is not to just have someone to answer questions but for the mentor to guide, to teach and to keep track of the missionary's progress.

All the process will be under the guidance of the FamilySearch Wiki Trainer and the Leads.

List of Steps[edit | edit source]

Each missionary will be assigned a mentor and the contact information will be included for the mentor in the missionary introduction letter. The mentor will also be given the contact information for the new missionary and ask to contact the missionary before any training begins.
The mentor can use this first contact to find out the goals the new missionary has in coming to the Wiki. The mentor can share an overview of what the Wiki is and the goals of the Support Team. The link to the Missionary Training Preparation lesson can be given to the new missionary.
Mentoring can begin with the new missionary when the mentor learns what they know about:

FamilySearch
FamilySearch Wiki
Computers
Genealogy.

The mentor and trainer will work together to present the lessons. Members of the Team will help by presenting the lessons as assigned by the Trainer and shown in the Class Schedule. Mentors will come to lessons as needed and will review with the missionary the homework and the understanding the missionary has of the lesson. If needed the mentor will help to reschedule or will reteach any areas with which the missionary has problems. The whole Team will be a resource for all mentors and new missionaries.

Mentors will continue with the new missionary by meeting with the missionary at least once a week. Asking and offering help. Bring them into the team as a full member.
Team leads with the help of the mentor, will help the new missionary to select projects and duties that fit their skills, and interests
