Brief History

Hatch's Independent Battalion, Minnesota Cavalry was organized at Fort Snelling and St. Paul, in Companies as follows:
Companies "A," "B," "C," "D" July 25 to September, 1863.
Company "E" mustered August 31, 1864.
Company "F" mustered September 1, 1864.
This regiment mustered out from April 26 to June 22, 1866.

Companies in this Regiment with the Counties of Origin

Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.

The rosters show the men who served in each regiment, their residences, dates of enlistment and mustering out, and other remarks. Company A - many men from Ramsey County, Goodhue County, and Hennepin County- Roster, page 760.

Company C - many men from Dakota County, Hennepin County, and Goodhue County - Roster, page 768.

Company D - many men from Ramsey County and various others - Roster, page 772.

Company E - many men from Hennepin County, Anoka County, Wright County and Stearns County -  Roster, page 776.

Company F - many men from Dakota County - Roster, page 779.
