Companies in this Regiment with the Counties of Origin[edit | edit source]

Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.

The Civil War Soldiers and Sailors database lists 2443 men on its roster for this unit. Roster.

Hamilton County raised 3 companies.

Clermont County raised 1 company.

Brown County raised 1 company.

Adams County raised 1 company.

Scioto County raised 1 company.

Athens County raised 1 company.

Gallia County raised 2 companies.

Meigs County raised 1 company.

Washington County raised 1 company.

The information above about the counties is from Richard C. Rankin, History of the Seventh Ohio Volunteer Cavalry, Ripley, Ohio: J. C. Newcomb, 1881, pages 1. Internet Archive.

The companies renezvoused in the counties where they were raised.[2]
