In 1866 the independent Kingdom of Hannover was taken over by Prussia and became a Prussian province.
This province was divided into six regions:
1. Aurich
2. Hannover
3. Hildesheim
4. Lüneburg
5. Osnabrück
6. Stade

The capital city was Hannover.
