The database called Nationell ArkivDatabas (or NAD) was created by the National Archives of Sweden. It is a online database that can be accessed and searched for free by the public at: Nationell ArkivDatabas. The database is essentially a catalog of the National and Regional Archive collections. As such, every parish has a unique digital identification code (Referenskod) assigned to it.

The code identifies where the original record is stored.

For example: Malungs kyrkoarkiv has the Referenskod SE/ULA/11213

The i.d. code can be broken down as:

SE (the International Code for Sweden)

ULA (the Uppsala Landsarkiv)

11213 (identification number for this church record collection)
